#7 Duke was guilty of taking an opponent lightly in their last outing. You can bet they won’t do the same on Thursday (Feb. 10) at Clemson.

The Blue Devils (19-4, 9-3 ACC) turned in a lackluster performance at home in a 69-68 loss to Virginia on Monday, a result that will surely knock them down the ladder in the AP Top-25 rankings.

The Tigers (12-11, 4-8 ACC) meanwhile, have dropped three of their past four, and are in a free fall in the ACC standings.

Duke Blue Devils Betting Analysis

The Blue Devils’ loss to the Cavaliers snapped a five-game winning streak. Duke was fresh off a blowout victory over arch rival North Carolina on Saturday, and didn’t bring nearly the same intensity for their date with Virginia.

Despite the effort that Coach K deemed not worthy of a victory, the Blue Devils still held the lead down the stretch. That is until the Cavaliers shocked the Cameron Indoor Stadium with a game-winning three in the dying seconds.

The game-winning bucket was jus the third by opponent in the past 25 years at Cameron with less than 2 seconds remaining, and dropped Duke into a tie with Notre Dame for the best record in the conference.

The Blue Devils were off all night on offense, shooting just 42.3% from the field, while getting outscored 52-28 in the paint. Prized freshman Paolo Banchero turned in his worst offensive performance of the season, scoring a season-low 9 points and none in the second half.

Mark Williams led the team with 16 points, but we should expect a big bounce back performance from Banchero Thursday. The projected lottery pick had 19 points and 7 rebounds in a victory against Clemson two weeks ago, in a game that was much closer than most expected.

Clemson Tigers Betting Analysis

The Tigers ultimately fell 71-69 to Duke that night, but held the lead with three and a half mintutes left. They easily covered the 11.5-point spread, but have failed to impress in recent games since. They’re fresh off a loss to UNC, a team the Blue Devils just beat by 20, and prior to that they fell to Georgia Tech, one of the few teams with a worse conference record.

While Duke checks in with the ACC’s highest net rating, and number one offense, Clemson ranks right around average in most statistical categories. They’ve struggled in conference play both straight up and against the spread, especially as an underdog – more on that later.

If there’s one advantage the Tigers have over the Blue Devils it’s experience. Clemson trots out four upperclassmen starters, while seven of their top-eight are in their junior or senior year. Duke on the other hand, has just one upperclassmen in their starting five.

Duke vs Clemson Pick

The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 113-32, and had covered in four of their past five overall prior to their hiccup against the Cavaliers. They’re 7-5 ATS in conference play, and 3-0 ATS this season coming off a loss. After an uninspiring loss on Monday, expect Duke to come out with its hair on fire and set the tone early.

The Tigers enter play having covered in just three of eight games as a ‘dog, and are 5-6-1 ATS versus ACC opponents this season. They’re 2-9 straight up versus top-80 opponents, covering in only three of those 11 outings.

Pick: Duke Blue Devils -7.5 (-110)
