Maryland looks to stop its losing streak when it hosts Iowa at 7:00 p.m. ET Thursday in a Big Ten game at the Xfinity Center in College Park.

Maryland (11-12/3-9 Big Ten/7-7 home) had its skid reach three games Sunday when it lost at Ohio State 82-67. Iowa (15-7/5-6 Big Ten/2-5 road) ended a two-game losing streak by beating Minnesota 71-59 on Sunday at home.

In a game that will be televised by ESPN 2, Iowa is a four-point favorite. At -178 on the moneyline, the Hawkeyes have an implied win probability of 64.03%.

Both sitting in the bottom half of the conference standings, neither Iowa nor Maryland is a factor in the Big Ten title odds. Iowa’s NCAA Tournament odds are hovering around +10000, roughly twice as short as Maryland (+20500).

Iowa Betting Outlook

While Iowa snapped its straight-up losing streak against Minnesota, the Hawkeyes lost against the spread for the third game in a row as they failed to cover as 12.5-point favorites. Iowa is 12-10 ATS this season, including 3-4 in away games.

Sophomore forwards Keegan Murray and Patrick McCaffrey combined to score 42 of Iowa’s 71 points. Murray had 24 and McCaffrey went for a season-high 18.

The duo also combined to make 17 of 32 (53.1%) field goal attempts while the rest of the team was 12 for 33 (36.3%).

Murray added 15 rebounds and three assists while notching his sixth double-double of the season. It was also his 14th game with at least 20 points, including two in a row.

Murray leads the Big Ten in scoring and is fourth nationally at 22.4 points a game while reaching double figures in 20 of 21 games. He is also third in the conference in rebounding (8.6) and fourth in blocked shots (2.0).

McCaffrey scored in double digits for a sixth straight game to raise his average to 11.5. He also grabbed seven rebounds.

Sophomore forward Kris Murray, Keegan’s twin brother, has a 10.1 scoring average for Iowa, which is 10th in the nation in KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency with 117.2 points a game.

Iowa held Minnesota to 36.1% (22 of 61) shooting and scored 21 points off 12 turnovers. The Hawkeyes had just six turnovers.

Iowa trailed 52-47 with 15 minutes to go but then turned things around with a 26-5 run that put the Hawkeyes on top 73-57.

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery is expected to return Thursday. He missed the Minnesota game after testing positive for COVID-19.

Maryland Betting Outlook

Maryland is just 4-10 ATS at home in 2021-22 and 9-14 overall.

Junior forward Donta Scott matched a season high with 25 points on Sunday, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the Terrapins against Ohio State. It was Scott’s second game of 20-plus points this season.

Scott was 5 of 8 on three-point attempts but the rest of the team was 5 for 21 (23.8%). Maryland shot just 39.0% (23 of 59) overall, including 32% in the first half when it fell behind 42-29.

Ohio State made 30 of 59 (50.8) from the field and shot 42.3% (11 of 26) on three-point tries.

Maryland senior guard Fatts Russell had his fifth straight double figure scoring game as he finished with 12 points, six rebounds and five assists. His season averages are 12.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

Junior forward Qudus Wahab had 10 points while senior guard Eric Ayala, Maryland’s leading scorer, finished with just eight points on 2-of-9 shooting overall, including making just 2 of 7 attempts from deep.

Ayala is averaging 15.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists. However, he has been held to single digit scoring in three of the last five games after hitting double figures in 16 of his first 18 games this season.

Maryland’s bench was outscored 21-6.

Iowa vs Maryland Prediction

Iowa beat Maryland 80-75 on Jan. 3 at home for its second straight win over Maryland.

Keegan Murray erupted for 35 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots while senior forward Filip Rebraca added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Hawkeyes. Ayala topped Maryland with 19 points, six assists and three rebounds while Russell contributed 16 points.

Iowa needs to keep stacking wins in its bid to reach the NCAA Tournament but has had trouble recently against the number. Look for Maryland to keep things close.
