Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Betting Analysis

You’d be hard pressed to find someone who saw this magical Louisiana run coming. The Ragin’ Cajuns lost nine of their final 14 games down the stretch, with their only victories coming against teams ranked lower than them in the conference standings.

They opened the Sun Belt Tournament with a narrow three-point win over 9th seed UT Arlington, before downing the Bobcats 79-72. Jordan Brown poured in a career-high 31 points versus Texas State, while the team shot 43% from three. They held the top seed to 35.8% from the field, and outrebounded them by 12.

Their impressive defense continued in their 66-57 semifinal victory versus the number 5 seed Troy, as they held the Trojans to 32.7% from the field. Offensively, Greg Williams Jr. was the catalyst with 16 points and 7 rebounds, but the offense wasn’t nearly as sharp as it was against the Bobcats.

Louisiana was the fourth highest scoring team in the Sun Belt this season, and ranked third in three-point field goal percentage. They were 10th in scoring defense in the conference, but ranked top-62 in all of college hoops in blocks, opponent three-point makes, and opponent effective field goal percentage.

The Ragin’ Cajuns will be making their ninth conference tournament final, and the fist since 2014.

Georgia State Panthers Betting Analysis

Georgia State will be tasked with spoiling Louisiana’s Cinderella run after taking out Appalachian State 71-66 in the other semifinal. The Panthers had an unusually strong night on offense, knocking down 43% of its shots, and 53.3% of its attempts from three.

Leading scorer Corey Allen led the way offensively with 29 points, while the defense did its part by holding the Mountaineers to 40% from the field, and forcing 15 turnovers.

As the tournament’s second seed, the Panthers earned a bye into the quarterfinal round where they disposed of Arkansas State 65-62. The team shot just 37.9% from the field and 19% from three, but was bailed out by its strong defense. Georgia State held the Red Wolves to a 35.6% field goal percentage, including 4-of-17 from three, while forcing 16 turnovers.

The Panthers were seventh in the Sun Belt in points per game this season, but dead last in field goal percentage, and ninth out of 12 teams in three-point efficiency. At the other end of the court, they ranked first in defensive rating and steals, and only 18 programs in the country force more turnovers.

Louisiana vs Georgia State Pick

Unsurprisingly, given their excellent defense and underwhelming offense, unders have been extremely popular in Georgia State contests.

16 of the Panthers’ last 19 games have fallen under the total, including both meetings with Louisiana this season. Georgia State took down the Ragin’ Cajuns 68-64 in Louisiana, and held serve at home 65-58. Those two games fell short of the total by an average of 14.5 points, while the Ragin’ Cajuns’ strong perimeter defense has made them a popular under bet as well.

The under is 3-1 in Louisiana’s last four games, and 9-6 in their past 15. They’ve played 17 games away from home this season, with the under hitting 11 times.
