Notre Dame Fighting Irish Betting Analysis

The Fighting Irish are neck and neck with #9 Duke atop the conference standings, and their only loss since mid-January came against the Blue Devils at home. Since then, they’ve reeled off four straight wins, three of which came on the road.

Last time out, they prevailed 76-61 at Clemson, thanks to a big game from Blake Wesley. The freshman guard poured in 21 points, including 18 in the game’s first eight minutes, to help Notre Dame build a double-digit lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Wesley is the only non-senior out of the Fighting Irish’s top-7 rotational players, and that kind of experience could go a long way to helping them win games in March.

Dane Goodwin added 20 points, while Cormac Ryan splashed 13 points, and the two along with Wesley combined to make 11 three’s. Notre Dame shot 53% from the field, and 54% from three against the Tigers, something we’re not accustom to seeing.

They rank 10th in the ACC in points per game, and seventh in field goal percentage. They’re better known for their stingy defense, a trait that was definitely on display versus Clemson. They held their opponent to 42.6% from the field, and 27.8% from three.

They’ve now held seven straight opponents to 65 points or less, and rank 4th in the conference in scoring defense.

Boston College Eagles Betting Analysis

BC meanwhile, enter play in a funk. They’ve dropped three straight, and five of their past six, most recently losing to Duke at home. The Eagles fell 72-61, despite a strong performance from James Karnik.

The senior center poured in 21 points and grabbed 9 boards, while DeMarr Langford added 16 points. It was another sub-par shooting effort from Boston College, as they hit just 40% of their field goal attempts, and a measly 8.3% of their three-point tries.

Lacklustre offense has been a common theme for this team all season, as they just don’t have the talent to keep up with the big boy programs. Defense is how they keep games respectable, as they hold opponents to an average of 66.5 points per game, the fifth best mark in the ACC.

Offensively, they rank 12th in the conference in points per game, and last in both field goal percentage and three-point efficiency.

Boston College vs Notre Dame Pick

The Fighting Irish have never won the ACC regular-season title, but all six of their remaining games, including this one, are extremely winnable. They’re toughest test left is at Wake Forest, and while they’ll likely be an underdog, they’ve actually won outright in each of the last three instances where they’ve been getting points.

Two of their past three victories have been by double-digits, and they’ve posted an impressive 10-4 mark against the spread so far in conference play.

BC on the other hand is fading, and just doesn’t have the firepower to threaten this Notre Dame defense. They’ve failed to cover in three of their past four road games, losing by at least 11 points in each contest.

Pick: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -10.5 (-110)
