Two of the hottest teams in the Association battle it out on Friday night in Memphis as the Phoenix Suns, who are winners of nine straight, visit the Grizzlies. The tip-off is scheduled for 8 PM EST at the FedExForum.
The Suns are leading the NBA with a stellar 62-14 record and most recently beat the Stephen Curry-less Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night behind a very well-rounded performance on both ends. The Grizzlies meanwhile, just squeaked out a one-point victory against the San Antonio Spurs, extending their unbeaten streak to six games.
Phoenix and Memphis have already met twice this season, winning a game each. However, the Suns previously won three in a row against them.

Can Anyone Stop The Suns?
Chris Paul missed over a month with a hand injury, yet the Suns still managed to absolutely dominate their opponents on a nightly basis. Now that he’s back in the lineup, there is honestly nothing stopping this Phoenix squad. They’re currently 8.5 games clear at the top of the West and have only lost once in their last 12 games.

Their 62nd win on Wednesday against the Dubs tied a franchise record and goes to show just how special Monty Williams’ squad really is. It went down to the wire, but the Suns managed to pull one out thanks to contributions from the entire rotation. Devin Booker and Mikal Bridges both dropped 22 points apiece, while CP3 collected 15 and dished out eight dimes. In fact, the first unit all finished with at least 10 points or more.
Although Phoenix shot a dismal 25% from beyond the arc, they managed to impose their will on Golden State in the paint, outscoring them 52-34. The Suns also fully capitalized off some sloppy basketball from the Warriors, translating their 21 turnovers into 29 points. Heading into Friday, Williams’ group is 31-6 away from the desert, the best road record in the league by far.

Grizzlies Depleted For Big Game
Memphis is sitting comfortably in second place with a six-game cushion on the Dallas Mavericks, but they will be extremely depleted here. As already known, Ja Morant is still out with a knee injury but essentially their entire starting five is unavailable vs. Phoenix. Steven Adams, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson, and Tyus Jones are all listed as doubtful due to various minor injuries.
S. Adams – LT Calf Soreness
D. Bane – LT Ankle Soreness
J. Jackson Jr. – Return from Injury Management (RT Thigh Soreness)
T. Jones – LT Hand Soreness
J. Morant – RT Knee Soreness
K. Tillie – LT Knee Soreness

Nonetheless, Memphis has convincingly won ballgames sans Morant, going 19-2 with their star guard sidelined in 2021-22. Their last game against the Spurs was by no means easy, but like always, others stepped up and got it done. Jones led the charge with 25 points in the Grizz backcourt, while breakout sophomore Bane also collected 16 points. Dillon Brooks, who recently returned from injury, posted 21 for the second contest in a row.
Memphis never trailed in this matchup, shooting an impressive 41% from long range as a group while leading by as many as 18. Keldon Johnson had the opportunity to put San Antonio ahead with 2.7 seconds remaining on the clock but he missed a contested lay-up by Bane. While Taylor Jenkins’ group can usually give Phoenix a run for their money, it’s going to be a daunting task on Friday without essentially their whole first unit.
Suns vs Grizzlies Prediction
Usually, I’d give Memphis more of a chance here. But every player on their roster who contributes on a night-to-night basis is on the shelf. After all, they’ve already locked up the No. 2 seed therefore it makes no sense for Jenkins to risk it here. The Suns meanwhile, are basically at full strength. Phoenix will comfortably cover here.
Pick: Suns -7 (-110)
