Showing as the -143 favorites, the Boilermakers are given an implied probability of victory of 58.85%. As the +120 underdog, the Hawkeyes show an IP of victory that’s set at 45.45%. Both schools are 7-2 straight up in their last nine games.

Currently the third-favorite in the NCAA Tournament title odds, the Boilermakers have lost just once in their last six meetings with the Iowa Hawkeyes. That loss, though, was at Iowa. The most recent visit by the Boilermakers to Iowa resulted in a 70-55 Hawkeyes victory on Dec. 20, 2020.

Ivey vs Murray

Each of these teams are driven by a sensational talent. For Purdue, it’s sophomore guard Jaden Ivey. The projected 2022 NBA Draft lottery pick is averaging 16.7 points, five rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He’s shooting 48.5% from the field.

However, Ivey missed Purdue’s last game, an 80-60 win over the Northwestern Wildcats, due to a hip flexor injury. The good news for the Boilermakers is that Ivey says he’ll be playing against Iowa on Thursday.

The Boilermakers didn’t miss Ivey’s offense against Northwestern but Iowa has sophomore forward Keegan Murray. Also a projected first-round NBA Draft pick, he’s third in the nation in scoring, averaging 22.8 ppg.

In Purdue’s 77-70 home-court victory over Iowa on Dec. 3, Murray sat out due to an ankle injury.

Boilermakers Betting Trends

Both of these schools are proving to be solid over plays of late. Iowa and Purdue have each gone over in five of the past seven games. As well, the total has gone over in five of the Hawkeyes’ last seven Big Ten games.

Since Feb. 1 of last year, Purdue is the only NCAA team that hasn’t suffered a double-digit point loss. Purdue’s six losses since Feb. 1, of last year have come by 1, 3, 9 (ot), 9 (ot), 2 and 5 points.

The Boilermakers have scored 90 or more points in a game an NCAA-leading nine times this season. Purdue leads the country in offensive efficiency (124.1) and has been held under 1.00 points/possession just once (Indiana – 0.98).

Purdue also has one of the nation’s deepest benches. The Boilermakers’ bench has scored at least 25 points in 16-of-19 games this season (Indiana State, Villanova, Indiana). They’re outscoring the opposing bench by a 577-317 (30.4 to 16.7 per game) margin.

Hawkeyes Betting Trends

Four of Iowa’s five losses have come to teams ranked in the AP Top 20 (#6 Purdue, #11 Wisconsin, #23 Iowa State, and #24 Illinois). The Hawkeyes are second in the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.84). They’re also third in fewest turnovers per game (8.9) and turnover margin (6.1).

Iowa is second in the Big Ten and fifth nationally in scoring offense (83.1). The Hawkeyes are shooting 76.2 percent from the foul line. Iowa is tops in the Big Ten and 35th nationally in free throw accuracy.

Purdue vs Iowa Prediction

The Boilermakers (16-3, 5-3) look to sweep the season series from Iowa (14-5, 4-4) for the second time in three years. Purdue is 3-3 SU in games decided by seven points or less this season.

However, the Hawkeyes were able to stay within seven of the Boilermakers on the road without Murray, who at the time was leading the nation in scoring.

With him playing and the Hawkeyes at home, where they’ve won five in a row, take Iowa and the points. Iowa is 11-4 ATS in the last 15 home games against Purdue. Iowa holds a 53-29 advantage over Purdue in Iowa City.
