The road to the Big Sky Tournament Championship Game has been a pretty chalky one. There’s been exactly one instance of a higher seed falling through three days of conference tournament play, and that came in the quarterfinals.

Seventh seed Portland State took out second seed Southern Utah, but the Vikings’ Cinderella hopes were squashed on Friday in the semis by third seed Northern Colorado.

Montana State Bobcats Betting Analysis

The Bobcats began the Big Sky Tournament as the favorite after winning the regular-season title. They boasted +200 odds to cut down the nets this week, and will be looking to exact some revenge after last year’s heartbreak.

Montana State lost the in conference championship game to Eastern Washington in 2021, but they’re older and wiser this time around. Four seniors are back from last year’s squad, including leading scorer Xavier Bishop.

The Bobcats opened up the tournament with an 83-61 drubbing of Sacramento State, but sledding was much tougher in the semifinal. Montana State snuck by fourth seed Weber State 69-66, overcoming a 6-point halftime deficit.

Amin Adamu led the way offensively with 15 points, while Bishop poured in 14. The Bobcats shot a blistering 50% from the field, which helped make up for some sloppy play. They committed 16 turnovers, while dishing out just 5 assists.

At the other end of the floor, they did a decent job holding the Wildcats to 5 points below their season average, and 42.6% from the field. Montana State led the Big Sky in defensive rating, while only Montana allowed fewer points per contest.

Northern Colorado Bears Betting Analysis

The Bears began the week with +600 odds to take home the title. They opened with a 68-67 victory over Eastern Washington, nearly blowing a 17-point lead.

Northern Colorado ranks 27th in the nation in points per game, and its offense looked more like itself in the Bears’ semi-final win over Portland State. Leading scorer Daylen Kountz poured in 36 points, as the team shot 54.2% from the field, and 40% from three.

Despite the impressive performance, they still barely squeaked by the Vikings 86-79 in a contest that was much closer than the final result. Northern Colorado trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half, but closed out the game on fire to book their spot in the final.

They were 1-1 versus Montana State this season, with both contests decided by just two points. Both games flew over the total, with their latest meeting last week exceeding the number by 22.5 points.

Northern Colorado vs Montana State Pick

Overs were quite common in both program’s games, despite the Bobcats strong defense. Seven of the past 10 Montana State outings have cleared the total, including three of the past four.

Northern Colorado’s combination of elite offense, and a scoring defense that ranked 10th in the Big Sky, pushed the majority of their games over as well. The over has hit in four of their past six contests, and in 14 of their 21 games versus conference opponents.

Both of their meetings with the Bobcats cleared the total by double digits, and I like another high-scoring game with the conference championship on the line.

Pick: Over 147.5 (-110)
