Baylor Bears Betting Analysis

The Bears enter play a game and a half back of Kansas for the Big 12 lead. They were blown out by the Jayhawks 83-59 in their first meeting earlier this month, but have played well since.

Their recent four wins in a five-game stretch includes three double-digit victories, including a big win over #20 Texas. Last time out, they snuck past Oklahoma State 66-64 in overtime, avenging a loss to the Cowboys from last month.

Leading scorer Adam Flagler returned versus Oklahoma State to pace the offense with a career-high 29 points. Flagler missed Baylor’s previous game versus TCU with a knee injury, but looked as good as new versus the Cowboys. He made 11-of-20 shots, including seven three’s.

Outside of Flagler, the Bears weren’t very efficient from the field shooting just 36.8%, but they made up for it with strong defense. They held their opponent to 26.1% from beyond the arc, while forcing 17 turnovers.

Once again, they played without leading rebounder Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, who’s done for the season with a knee injury, and his absence was felt. They were outrebounded 42-37, and will face an even stiffer challenge from the Jayhawks Saturday on the glass. The Bears rank 237th in defensive rebounds this season, while Kansas ranks second in the conference in total rebounding.

For the season, Baylor ranks second in the Big 12 in points per game behind only the Jayhawks, and fourth in scoring defense.

Kansas Jayhawks Betting Analysis

Kansas meanwhile, is an underdog for the first time this season. Last time out, they routed Kansas State 102-83, posting their 16th straight win over the Wildcats.

Ochai Agbaji led the offense with 23 points, moving past Wilt Chamberlain on the Jayhawks’ all-time leading scoring list. Christian Braun added 20 points, as the team shot a blistering 64.1% from the field, and 62.5% from three.

Kansas is currently the 10th highest scoring team in the nation, and in addition to leading the Big 12 in points per game, they also rank first in field goal percentage and three-point efficiency.

Shockingly, they rank last last in the conference in scoring defense, despite allowing only 68.2 points per game. Before reading too much into that, it’s important to note they’re holding enemy shooters to 41.8% from the field this season, and 30% from three. Their defense is much stronger than the stats suggest, as Baylor found out in their first meeting.

Kansas vs Baylor Pick

In their blowout victory over the Bears, the Jayhawks held them to 29.6% from the field. They shot 51.6% themselves, building a lead as big as 34 at one point.

Another blowout victory is unlikely, but it does feel like Kansas isn’t getting much respect leading into this game. They’re exceptionally potent on offense, and should be able to generate plenty of second chance opportunities versus a Baylor program that is struggling on the glass without their leading rebounder.

The Jayhawks have covered in three straight, and five of their last seven contests, while the Bears have failed to cover in three consecutive games. Baylor is just 2-6 ATS in their last eight outings, and 3-4 against the spread versus ranked opponents this season.
