Injury news will play a big role in determining how the Nets vs Grizzlies game is best attacked on Wednesday (March 23) from a betting perspective.

Brooklyn has an injury list a mile long, while Memphis star Ja Morant, the current runaway leader in the 2022 NBA Most Improved Player odds, is in danger of missing his second straight game – more on that later.

Memphis Grizzlies Betting Analysis

The Grizzlies enter play sitting second in the West, nine games back of Phoenix. They currently hold a comfortable 5-game lead over Dallas in the Southwest Division, as they look to capture the division crown for the first time in franchise history.

They’ve won five of six coming in, including a 122-98 victory on Sunday over Houston without Morant. Desmond Bane led the way offensively with 24 points, and was one of six Grizzlies to score at least 13 points.

The team shot 48% from the field, and 47% from three, improving to 14-2 without their star guard this season. Tyus Jones was one of those players to reach 13 points starting in place of Morant, while also chipping in seven assists and three boards.

Morant is reportedly dealing with a sore knee, but head coach Taylor Jenkins downplayed the severity after Sunday’s win. He said Morant was fine and the team just wanted him to get some extra rest with their next game not until Wednesday.

However, Morant was only a partial participant in practice on Tuesday, and is still considered day-to-day. In spite of Memphis’ incredible record without him this season, they could certainly use Morant versus Brooklyn. The Nets are the only team in the NBA Morant has never lost to.

Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis

The Nets have won six of their past seven, including three straight on the road. Despite the success, they sit eighth in the East and if the season ended today, they’d be staring at a Play-In Game. Still, they have the top odds to win the Eastern Conference.

Kevin Durant  was unstoppable in Brooklyn’s last game, a 114-106 home win over Utah on Monday. Durant splashed 37 points, while racking up nine rebounds and eight assists, helping the Nets overcome the loss and absence of many key players.

Kyrie Irving sat due to New York State’s vaccination policy, while Andre Drummond also missed the contest with a non-COVID illness. The team was already missing LaMarcus Aldridge due to a hip injury, and lost Seth Curry in the second half to a sprained ankle.

To add insult to injury, Ben Simmons still hasn’t played since being acquired from Philly.

As far as Wednesday is concerned, Irving will be allowed to play given the game is outside New York State, while Drummond and Curry are both questionable. Aldridge will be sidelined for at least another week, while there is no timetable for Simmons’ debut.

The Nets shot 54% from the field against the Jazz, continuing their stretch of impressive offensive play. They’ve scored at least 110 points in eight straight, but will face a stiff test against Memphis’ strong defense.

Nets vs Grizzlies Pick

The Grizzlies are the only team in the NBA to rank top-seven in offensive and defensive rating. If Morant was confirmed in, Memphis would be an excellent selection at -1.5, but I wouldn’t pull the trigger on the Grizzlies until his status is made public.

If he’s ruled out, the line should move towards Brooklyn opening up value on Memphis. The Grizzlies have proven they can win without him, and have already beaten Miami, Philly and Dallas among others with Morant on the sidelines.

Memphis took the first meeting between these two 118-104 in Brooklyn. Irving was obviously not a factor, but the Nets did feature Durant and Harden and still got worked.

Brooklyn is currently dealing with a rash of injuries, while Memphis is statistically the second best team in the league. I like them to defend home court with or without Morant.

Pick: Memphis Grizzlies -1.5 (-110)
