The #8 Fordham Rams (16-15, 8-10 A10) will face the #1 Davidson Wildcats (25-5, 15-3 A10) in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Friday, with tip-off scheduled for 12 PM ET at Capital One Arena in Washington DC.

The Wildcats have won 10 in a row against Fordham dating back to 2017 and took the season series, coming out victorious in both meetings. However, their matchup in January was very close, with Davidson winning by just three points before blowing out the Rams in February.

Davidson is an 11.5-point favorite here and has gone 13-9 ATS in this position. Whether they win the A-10 Tournament or not, the Wildcats are already a lock for the Big Dance, pegged as a #12 seed in the latest March Madness bracket projection. Surprisingly though, Davidson is at just +350 to win this tourney, sitting behind VCU and Dayton.

Fordham, meanwhile, has won three of their last four contests and actually thrives ATS, posting a 19-11-1 record.

Can the Rams Pull Off the Upset?

A victory against Davidson would automatically hand Kyle Neptune’s squad a berth in March Madness but even if they lose, the Rams could have a chance at qualifying through the postseason NIT Tournament. Nonetheless, this squad will be feeling confident after grinding out a 54-49 win over George Mason on Thursday afternoon.

It was a very low-scoring game with little offense, but Chuma Ohams took over for Fordham in the second half en route to dropping 20 points and grabbing 16 boards. The Rams’ didn’t exactly shoot the ball that well, but the defense did a great job of containing the Patriots, who made just 32% of their field goals on the day.

Offensively, the Rams aren’t the most efficient, ranking just 325th in the nation and shooting a mere 39.8% from the field, which is 346th worst in College Basketball. But, they make up for it on the defensive end, sitting 61st in the NCAA. Fordham will need to bring it in every way possible against an electric Davidson offense.

Davidson Looking to Bounce Back

The Wildcats enjoyed a fantastic campaign, losing only five times. However, their final regular-season game didn’t go as planned, losing to Dayton by a score of 82-76 last Saturday. Foster Loyer led the way off the bench with 25 points, while Hyunjung Lee also had 17. Davidson, who is the 8th best shooting team in the nation, drained a mind-boggling 48%  of their triples but couldn’t contain their opponents.

The Flyers shot 53% from downtown and 55% from the field and also dominated the Wildcats in the paint, outscoring them 32-24. Defensively, Bob McKillop’s team can be shaky at times, ranking 170th in the country. But also, in fairness, Dayton simply couldn’t miss a shot. In games like that, you simply need to just tip your cap.

Loyer and Lee will be the two main catalysts offensively for Davidson, who have completely owned Fordham in recent memory. They will also be coming in very fresh after almost a week off since their last game.

Fordham vs Davidson Prediction

Davidson is undoubtedly the better team, but Fordham took them to the absolute brink in January, despite being without Oham, who is playing tremendous basketball right now. Also, the Wildcats couldn’t get it going from beyond the arc in those two meetings with the Rams, shooting only 8 for 41.

At an 11.5-point spread and Fordham coming off an inspiring victory against George Mason, I think they’re going to make this closer.

Pick: Fordham +11.5 (-118)
