NCAA Tournament second-round action on Sunday will see two of the biggest programs in the nation battle it out as the #2 Duke Blue Devils (28-6) face the #7 Michigan State Spartans (22-12) in Greenville, South Carolina. Tip-off is 5:15pm ET.

Duke cruised past Cal State Fullerton on Friday in a very impressive all-around performance. As for the Spartans, they just edged out a very good Davidson team, winning 74-73 in the Round of 64.

This will be the 16th meeting between Duke and Michigan State, with Coach K’s squad holding a 12-3 advantage. However, MSU has won two of their last three against their Round of 32 opponents.

Duke Betting Analysis

Although Duke didn’t exactly play a tough opposition, they really shined in the first round. The entire starting five finished in double-figures, with freshman star Paolo Banchero leading the way with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

The projected lottery pick is also top-20 in the Wooden Award odds. Aside from his brilliance, the likes of Mark Williams and Jeremy Roach stepped up to the plate and delivered in the debut game of Coach K’s final March Madness tourney.

The Blue Devils also shot the ball extremely well overall, going a perfect 100% from the charity stripe and 41% from deep. The boards were theirs in this game, bodying the Titans in the paint on both ends of the floor.

Fullerton did make a bit of a run at one point but Duke then pulled away, with Banchero playing a huge part. He was imposing his will all night long, doing a great job of getting downhill and finishing inside.

With the victory, Duke has now won 10 of their last 12 games. Their well-rounded offense (5th in the nation) will be looking to wreak havoc on the Spartans, who rank 174th in the country in defensive rating.

Michigan State Betting Analysis

Michigan State wasn’t exactly great this season, finishing in seventh place in the Big Ten. But, they did make it to the semifinals of the conference tournament, eventually losing to Purdue.

Tom Izzo’s group was certainly battle-tested on Friday by Davidson, with the two teams going back and forth.

Joey Hauser erupted for a career-high 27 points while draining his first eight shots and finishing 9-of-12 from the field on the night. MSU was actually the best three-point shooting team in the Big Ten in 2021-22 but they struggled here, going just 7 for 26 from long range.

Turnovers were a problem all year as well, but Michigan State committed only seven against the Wildcats.

Despite the win, the Spartans have lost seven of their last 11 games, and to be frank, this is not one of Izzo’s stronger teams. They tend to make a lot of mistakes on both ends of the floor (218th in turnovers) and don’t have nearly as much talent as Duke’s roster. But, Michigan State has size, which could make a huge difference on Sunday.

Duke vs Michigan State Prediction

Honestly, the Blue Devils are just far too gifted to bet against here. Coach K’s team has so many different weapons who can get it done and the Spartans shouldn’t be much of a threat to them.

The battle on the boards will be fierce, but the ACC powerhouse will come out on top and cover.

Pick: Duke -6.5 (-110)
