Dayton Betting Outlook

Freshman guard Malachi Smith had provided an immediately impact for Dayton in his initial college season. He is averaging 10.5 points, 4.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals.

Smith shined against St. Louis. He finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Freshman guard Kobe Ellis, a transfer from DePaul, also scored 14 points for Dayton, which is 8-8 against the spread this season.

Yet another freshman, forward DaRon Holmes II, finished with 11 points and five blocked shots. It was his fifth straight game scoring in double figures.

Holmes has averages of 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocks.

Sophomore guard Toumani Camara, who is tied for Holmes for the team scoring lead, had an off-night shooting against Saint Louis. The Georgia transfer made only 1 of 5 field goal attempts and was 3 for 6 from the foul line while finishing with five points, less than half his 10.6 average.

Camara, though, pulled down nine rebounds to nudge his average to 6.8.

Dayton shot 43.8% (7 of 15) on three-pointers. While the Flyers allowed Saint Louis to make 9 of 16 (56.3%) from beyond the arc, they forced the Billikens into 15 turnovers.

Dayton built a 36-26 halftime lead then needed to hold on in the second half.

Duquesne Betting Outlook

Amir “Primo” Spears is heating up for Duquesne with back-to-back games of at least 20 points. However, the Dukes lost Wednesday when Fordham’s Aaron Daye made the game-winning layup with four seconds left.

Spears hit 20 on the nose on 8-of-12 shooting. It marked the fourth 20-point game of the season for the Dukes, who are 6-8 ATS, including 1-5 at home.

For the season, Spears is averaging 12.3 points, 2.5 assists and 1.7 steals.

With just two players returning from last season, it is not a surprise Duquesne is relying on freshmen like Spears and guard Jackie Johnson III as well as a host of transfers.

Johnson scored 13 points on Wednesday. He has scored in double digits in four of the last five games after doing so only once in his first nine games.

Junior guard Leon Ayers III added 13 points and six assists. The transfer from Mercer has been putting up solid numbers all categories with averages of 12.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.6 steals.

TCU transfer Kevin Easley Jr. is averaging 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds. Fellow sophomore forward Tre Williams, a transfer from Indiana State, is scoring 10.5 points, pulling down 6.6 rebounds and blocking 2.6 shots a game.

Williams totaled 12 points, seven rebounds and seven blocks against Fordham. He had scored seven points combined in his three previous games.

There were 18 rejections in the game, 10 by Fordham and eight by Duquesne. The Dukes shot 47.4% (9 of 19) from three-point range but were hurt by 15 turnovers.

Dayton vs Duquesne Prediction

Duquesne ended a six-game losing streak to Dayton when the teams last met last Feb. 2 with a 69-64 triumph at home. The Flyers had also won 10 of the previous 11 games and 14 of 16.

Look for Dayton for the Flyers to return to their winning ways in this one against the Dukes, who have been a losing proposition for bettors at home this season.

  • The Pick: Dayton -3.5 (-110)
