Emotions figure to be running high when #20 Texas plays its final game at the Erwin Special Events Center against #10 Baylor in a Big 12 game at 9 p.m. ET Monday in Austin.

The Erwin Center, which opened in 1977, will be razed for the expansion of the university’s medical school. Texas will move into the Moody Center next season.

However, the game is also important for seeding in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.

Baylor (24-5/12-4 Big 12/7-3 road) defeated Kansas 80-70 on Saturday for its third straight win and fifth in the last six games. Texas (21-8/10-6 Big 12/16-2 home) won its second straight game Saturday by edging West Virginia 82-81 on the road.

Baylor is a one-point favorite in a game that will be televised by ESPN. The Bears have a 52.83% implied win probability with their -112 odds on the moneyline.

The current March Madness bracket projection has Baylor as a #2 seed and Texas on the #5 line. The Bears had fallen out of the top-five in NCAA Tournament title odds, but their recent win over Kansas is sure to boost their stock.

Baylor Betting Outlook

Baylor ended a three-game spread losing streak by covering as a three-point favorite against Kansas. The Bears are 15-13-1 ATS overall this season and have split 10 road games.

While Baylor’s offense is normally driven by its guards, it was a pair of forwards who led the way Saturday. Senior Flo Thamba scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds and freshman Jeremy Sochan matched his season high with 17 points to go with five rebounds.

Thamba scored 12 of Baylor’s 17 points during a slow start for the Bears. They fell behind 28-15 with 5:49 left in the first half before rallying. Thamba’s jumper with 4:07 remaining put Baylor ahead for good 65-63.

Thamba has had double figures in points five times this season. He has done it in three of the last five games following Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua’s season-ending knee injury.

Junior guard Adam Flagler contributed 13 points, six rebounds and three assists. Despite missing all five shots from three-point range, Flagler scored in double digits for the 10th straight game and 18th in the last 19.

Flagler leads Baylor is scoring with a 13.7 average and is dishing 3.1 assists a game. Sophomore guard LJ Cryer is right behind Flagler at 13.5 points a game.

Senior guard James Akinjo went 2 for 10 from the floor but finished with 12 points and six assists. He scored in double figures for the fifth time in six games and has season averages of 12.9 points, 5.7 assists and 2.0 steals.

A testament to the depth of both rosters, only one player in the game features in the latest Wooden Award odds; Baylor’s Akinjo is a distant +35000 longshot.

Texas Betting Outlook

Texas failed to cover the 3.5-point spread at West Virginia and has been on the losing side of the number in three straight games. The Longhorns are just 12-16-1 ATS overall this season but 9-8-1 at home.

Senior forward Timmy Allen led the way Saturday as he had a season-high 26 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. It was his third double-double of the season but first since Jan. 4.

Allen scored 15 points in the game’s final 10 minutes when Texas rallied from a 10-point deficit. He shot 7 of 9 from the field and 12 of 16 at the foul line.

For the season, Allen is averaging 12.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Senior guard Marcus Carr was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field on his way to 15 points. Texas shot 63.6% (26 of 41) as a team while making half its 16 three-point attempts.

Carr has scored 33 points in two games since being shut out in 33 minutes in a loss to Texas Tech. He is scoring 11.1 points and dropping 3.3 dimes a game.

Texas got a surprise contribution from senior reserve guard Jase Febres, who scored a season-high 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. It was just his second double-digit game of the season, the other coming Nov. 13.

Febres had scored 12 points combined in his three previous games.

Baylor vs Texas Prediction

Baylor has won five straight games in the series and 11 of the last 12 from its longtime rival. The Bears rolled to an 80-63 victory Feb. 12 at home.

Flagler led the way for Baylor with 20 points and Akinjo notched 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Jones scored 11 points and was the only Texas player to reach double figures.

The intangibles are on Texas’ side, but Baylor has had the Longhorns’ number and ruled the series in recent years.
