It’s a game that will impact the standings at both ends of the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Just half an hour later, the depleted Cleveland Cavaliers are two-point dogs for their game with the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The evening games see the Nets visit the Hawks, the Bulls host the Heat and a preview of a potential first-round series as the Warriors welcome the Utah Jazz to San Francisco.

Odds as of Apr 02 at FanDuel

He might have slipped to second in the latest NBA MVP odds, but Joel Embiid is still putting up huge numbers on a nightly basis. The Process has the highest points line on Saturday at 33.5.

Rolling with Trae

Quietly averaging 30.7 and 10.7 over his last 10 outings, Trae Young is on a special run. He’s doing so on splits of 50, 40 and 96. Atlanta is eighth in net rating and on an 8-3 run over that period, with Young missing one game. They figure to a pretty tricky opponent for the Brooklyn Nets, who have won just two of their last five.

The Nets are bottom-10 in defense over their last 15. Last season gave us a taster of Hawks and Nets matchups, and it was a lot of fun for the neutral, albeit not exactly an exhibition of elite defense. Young passed this points and assists line in two of the three contests. While Brooklyn has changed a lot since then, the fundamentals of the two teams have not.

It will be a game of offense over defense. Brooklyn is limited in its options to put on Young. If they switch pick-and-rolls, he’s going to attack Andre Drummond or Nic Claxton. None of Kyrie Irving, Seth Curry, Goran Dragic or Patty Mills can stay with Young if isolated.

The two-time All-Star has been a bit inconsistent despite impressive averages of late, but this is a matchup he should enjoy. The over is good value here.

  • Pick: Trae Young over 39.5 points and assists (-122)

LaVine Leads Bulls’ Playmaking

Zach LaVine leads the Bulls in potential assists since All-Star. His 4.5 assist line might seem high given that he’s only gone over once in the last five, yet LaVine has been unfortunate with his teammates missing good shots. Clearly impacted by an ongoing knee issue, he’s not been as explosive as a scorer, but the Renton native is still playing a key role in the offense.

LaVine had 12 potential dimes last time out. He has made real progress as a playmaker over the last couple of the seasons. Where he was guilty of tunnel vision in the past, LaVine will be able to attack the weak spots in the Heat defense and find open teammates. His two-man game with Nikola Vucevic is one to watch on Saturday night too, particularly if Bam Adebayo gets shifted onto DeMar DeRozan.

With five or more assists in 34 of 64 games this season, and just 10 across three games against the Heat, history isn’t in LaVine’s favor. Miami isn’t playing its best basketball right now, though, and this should be a competitive game leading to a lot of minutes for the former Minnesota wing.

This is a decent bet at plus odds — LaVine is going to have the ball in his hands a lot, and the Heat’s defense hasn’t been as dominant of late.

  • Pick: Zach LaVine over 4.5 assists (+112)
