2022 Oscar Odds, Picks and Predictions – The Power of the Dog Favored in Best Picture Odds

Oscar sounds like a solid name for a dog and this year, the Academy Awards appear set to throw several bones . . . er, Oscars, to the film The Power of the Dog.

Power of the Dog director Jane Campion is the overwhelming -2400 chalk to take home the Best Director Oscar. The Western psychological thriller, based upon the 1967 Thomas Savage novel of the same name, is the -105 second betting choice to win the Best Picture Oscar in the Academy Awards odds.

Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes will co-host the 94th Academy Awards. The show is being carried live by ABC on Sunday, March 27 at 8pm ET.

There appears to be a hard divide when it comes to the Academy Award voters and The Power of the Dog. On the one hand, the film is dominating the pre-Oscar awards circuit.

The Power of the Dog has already won recognition as the best picture during the BAFTA and DGA ceremonies. Critics are absolutely in love with the film.

On the other hand, Hollywood insiders insist that there are just as many Academy voters who despise the flick as there are those who will be voting it at the top of their ballot. There’s a sense that the Hollywood elite don’t want to see a streaming service (Netflix) get the Best Picture Oscar over the major studios.

Oddsmakers seem to be recognizing this insider scuttlebutt as well. CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), has overtaken Power of the Dog and is the -135 chalk in this category. It’s got Marlee Matlin and an important message. The folks in Hollywood love this kind of flick.

Speaking of Colman, here she is, nominated for her work in The Lost Daughter. She’s one of three past winners up for the Best Actress Oscar along with Nicole Kidman (Being The Ricardos) and Penelope Cruz (Parallel Mothers). There’s also -160 favorite Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), up for a Best Actress Oscar for the third time.

Cruz’s previous win was the 2008 Best Supporting Actress for Vicki Cristina Barcelona. She’ll be the eigth woman to sweep both awards.

Campion rhymes with champion and Power of the Dog director Jane Campion will be making Oscar history when she picks up her golden statue as this year’s best director.

If you’re looking for an Oscars lock, this one is it. The Power of the Dog is up for a leading 12 Academy Awards. It also helps that CODA director Sian Heder isn’t nominated.
